[Mar 25]: Our junior curlers continue to make us proud as they dominated play at the high school level in Peel this year. The Notre Dame Boys’ team won their fifth consecutive ROPSSAA championship this year with an 11-4 victory over St. Martin’s SS of Mississauga. Team members include skip Andrew McGaugh, vice Michael McGaugh and lead Alex Miller from Ching and teammate Tristan Kodors at second. This makes a clean sweep for Andrew as he has now won ROPSSAA championships in all four years at Notre Dame, the last three as skip. Alex will be making his third trip to OFSAA, while Michael and Tristan are going for the second time. For Michael, this will be his fourth provincial championship this year, having already competed in OCA Bantam Boys, Ontario Winter Games and OCA Bantam Mixed.
The North Park Girls’ team claimed their second championship in three years with a 10-2 victory over Bramalea. It was a back and forth season for these two schools as they met four times during the year. Bramalea won two of the encounters, including the OCA Gore Schoolgirls Zone finals, and North Park won the other two. Ching Juniors on the team are skip Christine Psaila, vice Jane Whitbread and second Kelsey Psaila. The fourth member is lead Cheana Winters. For Christine, it will be her second trip to OFSAA, and her first time skipping a team at a provincial championship. The other three will be going to a provincial championship for the first time.
